Healthy Hair Hygiene

Something commonly debated is how to properly take care of your hair, such as washing, combing, etc. So here is our input on the subject.

The first thing to consider is how often to wash your hair. It basically comes down to one genera rule: The less you wash your hair, the less oily it will get. I know this seems strange and the complete opposite of what you expect. This isn’t something that will happen over night either. You are going to have to get your hair used to it. The reason that your hair produces so much oil, for those of you with oily hair, is because your head is trying to compensate for all the oils your constantly stripping out of your hair when you wash it every day. Start washing you hair every other day. Your hair will be oily for a couple days, but it will get used to it. Then stretch to three days. If you can go to four, do that just a few times. Your hair will probably feel disgusting, but, when you go back to washing your hair every other day, or every three days, it will feel much cleaner and less oily. It’s a long process, but it’s worth it to keep the natural oils in your hair which will make your hair much healthier.

When you wash your hair, always brush your hair first. This will loosen up all of the dirt and unnecessary oils at your scalp. It will also help prevent split ends in your hair. Once in the shower, wet your hair completely. Shampoo your hair only at the roots. By shampooing the ends of your hair you will only dry them out. When you condition your hair, only condition the ends. You don’t need those extra unnatural oils on your scalp. Rinse everything out off your hair completely, then rinse all the warm water out of your hair and rinse your hair thoroughly with cold water. This will seal your hair shafts. When you get out of the shower, towel dry your hair and comb through it with wide tooth plastic comb. Start by just combing the ends of your hair, then slowly work your way up.
