DIY: Home made bronzer

How to make your own portable bronzer compact:

Choose an Empty Makeup Case

Locate your case. I had an empty makeup case from ages ago that I had kept for future use. Wash it out.

Pour in Cinnamon

Pour some cinnamon into the case (Not too much)

Add Sugar (Powdered)

Pour some powdered sugar into the case. The amount will depend on how light you want the mixture to be for your skin. Mix Together the powders. I used a paint brush for this part. Add an Essential Oil to the mix. Only to firm the powers together and smell good! Apply and Enjoy Apply with a brush and enjoy! This project is a great way to bronze your skin with some items from around your house.

Note: This is basically a loose powder, so carrying it around in your purse isn’t the best idea! This is more for if you run out, or don’t want to use any your prized brands for a day at the beach, etc.

DIY: Chocolate and Orange lip balm

Super easy!

Things you will need:

  • 3 tablespoons organic cocoa butter.
  • 3-4 organic, fair-trade dark chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • 1/4 tsp organic orange extract

1. Melt the cocoa butter in the microwave.

2. Add the chocolate chips and stir until melted. (You may have to microwave the mixture again for a few seconds).

3. Add vitamin E and orange extract

4. Mix well and pour into a small container

DIY: Hair spray for thin or dry hair

  • 1 Lemon

  • 2 Cups of Water

Quantity:  Makes about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of Lemon Hair Spray.

To Make:  Chop up the Lemon in a wooden bowl so that you don’t lose any of the juice.  Add the chopped Lemon to the water in the top of a double boiler.  Simmer the mixture until the liquid has been reduced by half.  Strain through cheesecloth or fine silk cloth and pour the liquid into a bottle that will fit a pump-type sprayer.  A washed and rinsed Windex bottle will do for your spray container.  Add 1/2 cup of water to thin the mixture if necessary.

To Use:  Spray your hair with this mixture whenever necessary.  Since it is gentle, with not alcohol or chemical additions, it can be used on children’s hair too.  Should be made fresh every few days and kept in the fridge between uses.

Note:  One cup of the Lemon Hair Spray can be preserved with 1 oz. or more of Bay Rum.

Note No. 2:  Substitute an Orange for the Lemon for dry hair.

DIY: Help age spots or sun damaged skin

  • Mix the juice of one lemon
  • The juice of one lime
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 2 ounces of plain yogurt

Gently lather onto spots/damaged skin, and use once a week. Happy moisturizing!

Home-Made Bodybutter

Let’s get started!

Things you’ll need:

1 cup Shea butter

1/2 cup coconut oil

1/2 cup almond oil (you can substitute with any organic, healthy oil)

Double boiler

Several containers

Step 1: Melt Shea butter and coconut oil in the top of a double boiler. Remove and let cool for 30 minutes.

Step 2: Stir in almond oil and essential oils of your choosing.

Step 3: Wait until oil starts to solidify.

Step 4: Whip until a butter like consistency is achieved.

Step 5: Store in a jar/container and enjoy!

DIY: Pore strips

Biore Pore Strips costs about $12.00 for a box. Why spend the money when you have all the ingredients to make them at home! Follow these quick and easy steps!

Ingredients: Any kind of milk (not soy or almond), unflavored gelatin

Things needed: Measuring spoons, a container to mix in (microwaveable), something to apply mixture onto skin (Makeup sponge, Q-tip, etc.)

Now that you have these things, let’s get started! Make sure your face is washed before applying the mask!

Step 1: Measure  Tablespoon of unflavored gelatin into a container

Step 2:  Add 1-2 Tablespoons of milk into the gelatin

Step 3: Mix it up, and be quick about it, until you get a chunky consistency.  Add a tiny bit more of milky if it seems too chunky.

Step 4: Microwave for 10-15 seconds. The mixture will even out and begin to get creamier in the mircowave.

Step 5: Apply directly to face. It will be slightly warm, but if it is left to cool down, it will harden and you will be unable to apply this onto your skin.

Step 6: Allow the mask (pore strips) to sit on face for a minimum for 15 minutes. It must harden and crack before it will peel correctly.

Step 7: Peel away all the gelatin, wash face and moisturize and voila! A soft, black head free face. :)

DIY: Beach waves

Very simple, and very fast!

Make sure your hair is completely dry, and product free. But leaving your hair slightly dirty will help it hold curl.

Step 1: Section hair and put in loose braids.

Step 2: Apply a heat protector into hair, this is always very important!

Step 3: Run a flat iron over each braid several times.

Step 4: After allowing them to cool, apply a light hair spray.

Step 5: Undo braids, run fingers through hair, and voila!
